Holidays

My favorite holiday in Chile is the Independence Day (September 18th and 19th) because you can celebrate two days depending on the days in the week. If the party starts on Thursday you can celebrate 4 days, including on weekend! I enjoy eating "empanadas" or "anticuchos",  dancing "cueca", and elevating kites. Normally, people gather with the family and prepare barbecue. Some of them go to  "Fondas", a place where you can dance, drink wine or "chicha" (a sweet drink). All houses put the national flag; if not you have a penalty. I love these days because everybody is happy.

Marriage Tradition

Do you know the marriage tradition of  Love Spoon? In 1667, in Wales (United Kingdom), it made the first love spoon. It was common for the groom gives to her bride a carved wooden spoon. This gift symbolized that he will never allow her to go hungry. The love spoon had different meanings, for example, a cross for faith, a wheel to support a love, a horseshoe for luck, a lock for security, caged balls indicated the number of children that the newlyweds hoped in their marriage. However, in spite of the years, today people continue giving this gift in the wedding, anniversary, birthday, baby gifts, Christmas or Valentine´s day gifts. Do you want one Love Spoon

Opinion

Have you ever felt nervous with a horror movie only for its background music? Well, it because the background music is too important like the movie itself. Years ago I didn´t know it. I learned about the composers, to listen the soundtracks and now  I understand its importance. In my opinion, one of the best musical composers is John Williams. Do you know him? He is an American conductor and pianist too. He composed the most popular film scores including Star Wars, Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, the first two Home Alone films, Hook, the first two Jurassic Park films, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, the first three Harry Potter films, Catch Me If You Can, and others. He has won a lot of awards. I recommend you listen his music, it is amazing, exciting, magical and will blow your mind.

Travel

If you think to travel to South America, you can´t miss the amazing Marble Caves! It´s located in Patagonia, in Chile side General Carrera Lake and in Argentina side Buenos Aires Lake, because they shared lands. The Marble Caves are an unusual geological formation located at the centre of the lake. The tourist can go by ship; they can see beautiful group of caverns, columns and tunnels formed of marble. The best time to visit is Summer, because  the color of the water is blue; this color is formed for small ice particles that are floating in the water. Normally, the weather is cold and humid, but the interesting is that the lake itself has a sunny microclimate. This fantastic place is popular because the Marble Caves have been formed by wave action over the last 6200 years! Do you want to go?

Languages

Do you know that the Tower of Babel talks about of enumeration of the languages scattered in it? The origin of language is a real myth, but everybody know that all started many, many years ago. One of them: English. It is said English Language is a West Germanic Language that originated from Anglo-Frisian. I think English Language is one of the most important language today. You can communicate with the most of the people in the world. I think Spanish Language is important too. Both are part of Latin, so  they are a little more easy to understand. However, I want to know Chinese. I think is useful for business and you can find Chinese people all over the word. The languages are useful to travel, work, study, know new people. If I have time I would like to learn the most I can, even deaf language for people who have that kind of disability. What language, after English, do you want to learn?

Money

If I won $10 million dollars in the Lottery, the first thing I would do is call my bank and a lawyer. After that, I would plan the rest of my life. I would give $1 million dollars to my father and my sister. I would give $1 million to my extend family (uncles, aunts, some cousins and grandmother). For me, I would spend $2 million dollars travelling around the world and buying a big house in Chile. Also, I want to give $1 million dollars to poor people or foundations to help people or animals. The rest of the money, I want to do a very organized person and don´t try to spend inmediately all the money. Maybe, I would ask to expert people to help me to invest part of my money. I like too, share with my best friends half a million dolar and try to help them paying the University, and probably, I will not continue working with and employer. Really, I hope to win the Lottery!! What about you?

Crime

If someone asks me, do you like Calgary? I answer, "Yes, I like." I think is one of the safest and honest cities that I known. You can walk alone at night, buy something with your credit card, and get money in the atm without worried that someone astonishingly is going to con, steal or kill you. Compare with my country it is different, but, sometimes, depend of the city where you live. The civilian police is the PDI, Investigations Police in Chile, who are worried in criminal investigation and law enforcement, in murders, corruption and domestic violence; according to information found on the internet in 2012 Chile had a murder rate of 3,1 per 100.000 population, about 550 murders that year; however, they investigate other cases too like antinarcotics, robbery, economic  crimes, and cybercrimes. Other entity is the military police "Carabineros de Chile". Both of them have interesting websites who help you and give recommendations how you can stay safe, how to report a crime and fraud, and tips to avoid them including about protecting your kids, at work, on the internet, and give you information about dangerous criminals. In spite of this help, you always need to be careful. However, nowadays, I prefer to stay here in Calgary because I feel happy, more protected and safe. Do you agree with me?

Extrem Sport

Do you know that Dakar in Chile is very important event? I want to present you a very famous person who participated in rallies worldwide like Dakar Rally and Rallye des Pharaons. He is Carlo de Gavardo Prohens. He was a Chilean motorist and motorcyclist. Years ago a journalist asked him how he started his passion to ride motorcycles and he answered "My grandfather was the person who began all. He had always prepared his baggage to travel somewhere. I remember too he gave me a National Geographic's book which I started to see the maps and rutes of different countries." He began his active participation where he won the Enduro National Championship between 1986 and 1994. In 1996 until 2004 he participated in every Dakar. He had a lot of accidents, but he continued his career. He said "I always see my X-Rays and I think if you are motivated, you will have the strength to carry on." He received two fair-play awards: IOC, International Olympic Committee, and International Motorcycling Federation. Between 2008 and 2009 he began to compete in Dakar with Hummer. He died of a cardiopulmonary arrest while he was riding his bike in Chile, at 45 years old. What do you think, it's dangerous sport or not?
